ELECTRIC STARTER
Check the commutator for damage or abnormal
wear.
Check the commutator bar for discoloration.
Do not use emery
Clean the metallic debris off between commutator
or sand paper on
bars.

Replace the armature with a new one if necessary.
Check for continuity between pairs of commutator
bars.
There should be continuity.
Check for continuity between each individual com-
mutator bar and armature shaft.
There should be no continuity.
Check the dust seal for deterioration, wear or dam-
age.
Turn the inner race of the starter motor bearing with
your finger.
The bearing should turn smoothly and quietly.
Also check that the outer race of the bearing fits
tightly in the front cover.
