6. Starter Relay Coil Input Line Voltage Inspection
Connect the starter relay switch connector.
Turn the ignition switch ON and engine stop switch to " ".
Squeeze the rear brake lever fully and push the starter switch then measure the starter relay input
voltage between the starter relay switch 4P (Red) connector with the connector connected and
ground.
CONNECTION: Yellow/red (+) – Ground (–)
Is there battery voltage?
YES
– GO TO STEP 7.
NO
– • Faulty ignition switch (page 23-26)
• Faulty engine stop switch
– NSS250S: (page 22-27)
– NSS250A: (page 22-29)
• Faulty inhibitor switch (page 22-31)
• Faulty starter switch
– NSS250S: (page 22-27)
– NSS250A: (page 22-29)
• Loose or poor contact connector
• Open circuit in wires between the ignition switch and starter relay switch
• Open circuit in wires between the battery and ignition switch.
7. Starter Relay Switch Continuity Inspection
Remove the starter relay switch (page 21-16).
Check the starter relay switch for continuity (page 21-16).
Is there continuity?
YES
– Loose or poor contact of the starter relay switch connector.
NO
– Faulty starter relay switch
Starter motor turns engine slowly
• Low battery voltage
• Poorly connected battery cables
• Poorly connected starter motor cable
• Faulty starter motor
Starter motor turns, but engine does not turn
• Starter motor is running backwards
– Case assembled improperly
– Terminals connected improperly
• Faulty starter clutch
• Damaged or faulty starter drive gear
• Damaged or faulty starter reduction gear or shaft
Starter relay switch "CLICK", but engine does not turn over
• Crankshaft does not turn due to engine problems
• Faulty starter clutch
• Damaged or faulty starter reduction gear or shaft
