Honda Smart Card Key System
Diagnostic code
1. Card Key Battery Inspection
Replace the card key battery with a new one and check if the diagnostic code indicates.
Does the diagnostic code indicate?
YES
NO
2. Card Key Inspection
Indicate the diagnostic code by using the another registered card key.
Does the diagnostic code indicate?
YES
NO
3. RF Unit Input Voltage Line Inspection at RF Unit
Disconnect the RF unit 5P (Green) connector (page 23-30).
Push the ignition switch and measure the battery voltage at the RF unit 5P connector of the wire side
using a analog multimeter.
CONNECTION: Yellow/red (+) – Green/black (–)
Does the multimeter needle move to full scale and then return to zero?
YES
NO
4. RF Unit Ground Line Inspection
Check the continuity between the RF unit 5P connector of the wire side and ground.
CONNECTION: Green/black – Ground
Is there continuity?
YES
NO
5. RF Unit Input Voltage Line Inspection at Handle Lock Module
Connect the test harness to the handle lock module 21P (Black) connector (page 23-17).
Connect the RF unit 5P (Green) connector.
Push the ignition switch and measure the voltage between the test harness and ground.
CONNECTION: 16 (+) – Ground (–)
Is there battery voltage?
YES
NO
6. RF Unit Signal Line Inspection
Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the handle lock module 21P (Black) connector (page 23-
17).
Check the continuity between the RF unit 5P and handle lock module 21P connectors.
TOOL:
Test probe
CONNECTION: Black – Black
Is there continuity?
YES
NO

– GO TO STEP 2.
– Discharged Card Key battery
– GO TO STEP 3.
– Faulty original card key
– GO TO STEP 6.
– GO TO STEP 4.
– GO TO STEP 5.
– Open circuit in Green/black wire
– Open or short circuit in Yellow/red wire
– Faulty handle lock module
