FINAL REDUCTION
FINAL REDUCTION CASE BEARING
Ball bearing
Turn the inner race of the final reduction case ball
bearings with your finger.
The ball bearing should turn smoothly and quietly.
Also check that the bearing outer race fits tightly in
the final reduction case.
Replace the ball bearing if the inner race does not
turn smoothly, quietly, or if the outer race fits
loosely in the final reduction case.
Needle bearing
Check the counter gear shaft needle bearing in the
final reduction case for wear or damage.
Also check that the bearing outer race fits tightly in
the final reduction case.
Remove the drive shaft using a special tool.
Be careful not to
damage the final

mating surface.
• Replace the drive shaft bearing of the left crank-
case side, when removing the drive shaft.
Remove the oil seal.
If the drive shaft bearing is left on the drive shaft,
remove it using a hydraulic press.
INSPECTION
Check each shaft or gear teeth for wear or damage.
Check the counter gear shaft for wear or damage.
Check the counter gear for wear or damage.
