Tapered Roller Bearing Preload Adiustment {cont'dl

ll the tapered roller bearing preload is not within
the standard, select the thrust shim which will give
the correct tapered roller bearing preload from the
following table.
NOTE: Changing tho thrust shim to the next size
w i l l i n c r e a s e o r d e c r e a s e t a p e r e d r o l l e r b e a r i n g
preload about 3 - 4 kg-cm (2.60 - 3.47 lb-in).

9. How to select the correct thrust shim:
- 1 ) C o m p a r e t h e t a p e r e d r o l l e r b e a r i n g p r e l o a d
you get with the thrust shim that was removed,
with the specified preload of l4 - 26 kg cm ('12
- 2 3 l b - i n ) .

For example with a 2.17 mm thrust shim:

thrust shim, and recheck)
. In example B, yours was 8 kg-cm more than

and recheck).
After adjusting the tapered roller bearing preload,
assemble the transmission and install the transmis-
sion housing (see page'13-3'l).
TOROUE: 10 x 1.25 mm: 45 N'm

(2.8 kg-m, 20 lb-ft|
Rotate the differential assemblv in both directions
to seat the tapered roller bearings.
