Rear Window Defogger
F u n c t i o n T e s t
Before t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g the rear w i n d o w circuit,
p e r f o r m multiplex integrated control system
t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g using B-CAN System Diagnosis Test
Mode A (see page 22-84).
NOTE:
• Be careful not to scratch or d a m a g e the defogger
wires w i t h the tester probe.
• Before testing, check the No. 14 (40 A) fuse in the
under-hood fuse/relay box and No. 30 (7.5 A) fuse in
the under-dash fuse/relay box.
1. Check for voltage between the positive terminal (A)
and body ground w i t h the ignition switch and
defogger switch O N .
There should be battery voltage.
• If there is no voltage, check for:
- Faulty defogger relay.
- Faulty w i n d o w antenna coil.
- Faulty climate control unit (audio-HVAC display
module)
- A n open in the BLK/YEL w i r e to the positive
terminal.
• If there is voltage, go to step 2.
About 2.5 V About 6 V About 9.5 V
2. Disconnect the negative t e r m i n a l (B) f r o m the rear
w i n d o w defogger.
3. Check for continuity between the negative terminal
and body g r o u n d .
• If there is no continuity, check for an open in the
BLK/YEL w i r e and g r o u n d .
• If there is continuity, go to step 4.
4. Reconnect the negative t e r m i n a l to the rear
w i n d o w defogger.
5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II) and the rear
w i n d o w defogger switch O N .
6. Touch the voltmeter positive probe to the points (1),
(2), (3) on each defogger w i r e , and the negative
probe to the negative t e r m i n a l .
• If the voltage is as specified, the defogger wire
up to that point is OK.
• If the voltage is not as specified, repair the
defogger w i r e .
- If it is more than specified at one of the points,
there is a break in the negative half of the wire.
- If it is less than specified at one of the points,
there is a break in the negative half of the w i r e .
