D r i v e B e l t A u t o - t e n s i o n e r I n s p e c t i o n
1. With the engine OFF, check the position of the auto-
tensioner indicator pointer (A). Start the engine,
then check the position again w i t h the engine idling.
If the position of the indicator moves or fluctuates,
replace the auto-tensioner (see page 21-102).
2. Check for abnormal noise f r o m the tensioner pulley.
If y o u hear abnormal noise, replace the tensioner
pulley (see page 21-102).
3. Remove the drive belt (see page 21-100).
4. Move the auto-tensioner w i t h i n its limit w i t h the
w r e n c h in the direction s h o w n . Check that the
tensioner moves s m o o t h l y and w i t h o u t any
abnormal noise. If the tensioner does not move
s m o o t h l y or there is abnormal noise, replace the
auto-tensioner (see page 21-102).
5. Remove the auto-tensioner (see page 21-102).
6. Clamp the auto-tensioner (A) by using t w o 8 m m
bolts (B) and a vise (C) as s h o w n . Do not clamp the
auto-tensioner itself.

7. Set the torque wrench (D) in the pulley bolt in the
direction s h o w n .
8. A l i g n the indicator (E) on the tensioner base w i t h
center mark on the tensioner a r m by using the
torque w r e n c h , and measure the torque. If the
torque value is out of specification, replace the
auto-tensioner.
NOTE: If the indicator exceeds the center mark,
recheck the torque.
