5. Install the steering c o l u m n covers.
6. If necessary, center the cable reel. (New
replacement cable reels c o m e centered.) Do this by
first rotating the cable reel clockwise until it stops.
Then rotate it counterclockwise (three full turns)
until the arrow mark (A) on the cable reel label
points straight up.
7. Position the t w o tabs (A) of the turn signal
canceling sleeve (B) as s h o w n . Install the steering
wheel on to the steering c o l u m n shaft, making sure
the steering wheel hub (C) engages the pins (D) of
the cable reel and tabs of the canceling sleeve. Do
not tap on the steering wheel or steering c o l u m n
shaft w h e n installing the steering w h e e l .

8. Install the steering wheel w i t h a n e w steering
wheel bolt (A), then connect connector (B)..

9. Install the driver's airbag (see page 24-139).
10. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
11. After installing the cable reel, c o n f i r m proper
system operation:
• Turn the ignition switch ON (II); the SRS indicator
should come on for about 6 seconds and then go
off.
• After the SRS indicator has turned off, turn the
steering wheel fully left and right to c o n f i r m the
indicator does not c o m e o n .
• Make sure the horn works.
• Make sure the cruise control w o r k s .
