S R S Unit, Front Impact Sensors, and Side
Impact Sensors
• Be careful not to b u m p or impact the SRS u n i t front
impact sensors, or side impact sensors w h e n the
ignition switch is ON (II), or for at least 3 minutes after
the ignition switch is turned OFF.
• During installation or replacement, be careful not to
b u m p (by impact w r e n c h , h a m m e r , etc.) the area
around the SRS unit, front impact sensors, or side
impact sensors. The airbags could accidentally
deploy and cause damage or injury.
• Do not disassemble the SRS unit, front impact
sensors, or side impact sensors.
• Turn the ignition switch OFF, disconnect the battery
negative cable, and w a i t at least 3 minutes before
beginning installation or replacement of the SRS unit
or disconnecting the connectors f r o m the SRS unit.
• Be sure the SRS unit, front impact sensors, and side
impact sensors are installed securely w i t h the
m o u n t i n g bolts t o r q u e d to 9.8 N-m (1.0 kgf-m,
7.2 Ibf-ft)
• Do not spill water or oil on the SRS unit or the side
impact sensors, and keep t h e m away f r o m dust.
• Store the SRS unit, front impact sensors, and side
impact sensors in a cool (less than 104 °F/40 °C) and
dry (less than 80 % relative h u m i d i t y , no moisture)
area.
• After a collision that caused any airbag to deploy, the
SRS unit and many other c o m p o n e n t s must be
replaced (see page 24-136). After a collision in w h i c h
the airbags, or the side airbags and/or seat belt
tensioners did not deploy, inspect for any damage or
any deformation on the SRS unit, f r o n t impact
sensors, and side impact sensors. Replace all
d a m a g e d parts.
