System Initialization
If for any reason, you lose power to the navigation
system (like the battery was disconnected). The
navigation system w i l l require initialization. Once
c o m p l e t e d , your system w i l l be ready to use.
This initialization requires the f o l l o w i n g :
• Entry of the 4-digit anti-theft security code to
" u n l o c k " the system
• GPS initialization (may not be needed depending of
the length of t i m e the system w a s w i t h o u t power)
• Map matching to align the GPS to a location on the
m a p
Entering Security Code
The navigation system and audio unit have a coded
theft protection circuit. Be sure to get the customer's
anti-theft security codes number before;
• Disconnecting the battery
• Disconnecting the navigation unit 8P connector
• Removing the No. 7 (10A) fuse f r o m the under-dash
fuse/relay box
After service, reconnect power to the navigation unit,
and turn the ignition switch ON (II). Enter the 4-digit
anti-theft security code, then select " D o n e . "
W h e n replacing the navigation unit or audio unit, be
sure to give the customer the new anti-theft security
code.
GPS initialization
Depending on the length of t i m e the battery w a s
disconnected, your system may require GPS
initialization. If it does, the f o l l o w i n g screen appears:
T h e s y s t e m is acquiring its G P S signal.
This could take up to 10 minutes.
• Engine m u s t be running
• Vehicle m u s t be parked outside,
a w a y from buildings
• Do not m o v e the vehicle at this time
If this procedure is not necessary the system proceeds
directly to the Disclaimer screen. During initialization,
the system searches for all available GPS satellites, and
obtains their orbital i n f o r m a t i o n . During this procedure
the vehicle should be out in the open w i t h a clear v i e w
of the sky.
If the navigation system finds the satellites properly,
this box clears, and changes to the Disclaimer screen. If
w i t h i n 10 minutes the system fails to locate a sufficient
number of satellites to locate your position, the
f o l l o w i n g screen appears.
Navigation system is unable acquire a
proper G P S signal.
• Move vehicle to another location
• Turn the ignition switch off
• Disconnect the battery for 30
minutes to clear the G P S receiver's
memory
• Reconnect the battery and follow
the screen prompts
After 30 minutes w i t h this screen displayed, turn off the
engine, then restart the vehicle. If you n o w see the
Disclaimer screen, the GPS initialization is complete.
NOTE:
• The average acquiring t i m e is less than 10 minutes,
but it can take as long as 45 minutes.
• If the system is still unable to acquire a signal, f o l l o w
the instructions on the screen. If this screen appears
again, go to troubleshooting for the GPS icon does
not indicate (see page 23-133).
