• W h e n only t w o satellite signals can be received
(Three satellite signals are required for accurate
positioning).
• W h e n the satellite control centers are experiencing
problems.
• W h e n driving near high tension power lines.
• W h e n the satellite signals are blocked by the
operation of some electronic aftermarket accessories
including, but not limited t o , non-OEM in-dash
entertainment units (radio, CD players/changers,
radar detectors, and theft recovery systems), and
cellphones placed near the navigation system.
M u t i n g Logic
Whenever the navigation system is giving guidance,
the front speakers are m u t e d . W h e n the voice control
system is being used, all of the speakers are muted.
LCD Display Unit Limitations

the first 2 or 3 minutes until it w a r m s up.
• W h e n the display is too hot because of direct s u m m e r
sunlight, it w i l l remain dark until the temperature
drops (You m a y see an error message displayed

noticeable because of the panel's low-reflection
coating. Clean the screen w i t h a soft, d a m p cloth. Y o u
may use a mild cleaner intended f o r eye glasses or
c o m p u t e r screens. To avoid scratching the panel, do

touch it again.
NOTE: Input may be affected by direct sunlight.

S y m p t o m Duplication
• W h e n the s y m p t o m can be duplicated, verify that it is
not a characteristic of the system. Review the
navigation manual and c o m p a r e it to a known-good
vehicle (with the same software and database), under
the same conditions. If not the same, f o l l o w the self-
diagnostic procedures and the appropriate
troubleshooting procedures.
• W h e n the s y m p t o m does not reappear or only
reappears intermittently, ask the customer about the
conditions w h e n the s y m p t o m occured.
- Ask the customer to demonstrate the p r o b l e m .
- Try to establish possible user error or
misunderstanding of the system.
- Try to establish if outside interference may have
been the cause.
- Try to duplication the s y m p t o m under the same
conditions the customer w a s experiencing.
- Vibration, temperature extremes, and moisture
(dew, humidity) are factors that are difficult to
duplicate.
- Inspect the vehicle for after-market electronic
devices (vehicle locators, a m p s , radar detectors,
etc.) that m a y be hidden.
Service Precautions
• If the navigaiton unit needs t o be replaced, i n f o r m the
customer that personal i n f o r m a t i o n in the navigaiton

have the anti-theft codes for the radio and the
navigation system, and w r i t e d o w n the audio channel

and freeze frame data (which w i l l be lost w h e n the
PCM loses power).
• W h e n the battery is disconnected, the internal GPS
clock is reset to " 0 : 0 0 . " The clock will reset to the
correct time after the system finishes GPS
initialization.
• After reconnecting the battery, y o u have to w a i t to get
the initial signal f r o m the satellite. It will take f r o m 10
