G P S Information
This screen shows the current status of GPS reception.
The circular diagram shows the current location of the
GPS satellites (yellow numbers) as they w o u l d appear
in the sky. The outer circle represents the horizon (0
degrees elevation). The middle and inner circles
represents 30 and 60 degrees respectively. The very
center of the diagram (90 degrees elevation) is directly
overhead. Naturally, nearby obstructions, like tall
buildings w i l l block satellites in that direction. That is
w h y it is necessary to be in an open area to effectively
troubleshoot GPS reception issues. The satellite
numbers s h o w n on the d i a g r a m correspond to the
" P R N " number in the "GPS Details" screen. There are
always 24 " a c t i v e " GPS satellites in orbit. Because
satellites fail, and have to be r e m o v e d f r o m service,
spares always parked in orbit, ready to be activated.
This is w h y the PRN (satellite ID number) can be greater
than 24.
NOTE:
• To use this screen for t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g , the vehicle
should be out side away f r o m buildings, tall trees,
and high-tension wires f o r at least 10 minutes w i t h
the engine running.
• Metallic w i n d o w tinting or after-market electronic
accessories m o u n t e d near the navigation or display
units can interfere w i t h GPS acquisition.
• The " N u m b e r of Satellites" box shows the n u m b e r of
acquired satellites ( m a x i m u m of 12). It should contain
3 or more icons. If not troubleshoot for "GPS icon
does not indicate" (see page 23-133).
• The " C u r r e n t Position" s h o w s latitude, longitude, and
elevation(in meters). If there are less than 3 satellites,
the elevation can be grossly inaccurate.
• The Date/Time field shows the current date, and also
a t i m e that includes daylight savings and other
offsets entered by the customer in Setup screen 2
" A d j u s t Time Zone/Clock".
GPS Detail
By pressing and holding the M E N U button f o r
10 seconds, a GPS Detail screen is displayed. This
screen displays real t i m e i n c o m i n g satellite positional
data. Most of the i n f o r m a t i o n s h o w n on this screen is
for factory use, however some of the data can indicate
partial GPS signal interference.

• The box TS/AS and HDop/VDop is f o r factory use.
• The Speed and Direction i n f o r m a t i o n is updated in
real time w h e n driving, and can be used t o detect
intermittent speed sensor p r o b l e m s .
• The Date/Time Information is the same as in Setup
screen 2 " A d j u s t Time Zone/Clock."
• If the " 3 D " icon is s h o w n above the y e l l o w dots, this
implies that at least 4 satellites are available f o r map
positioning, and the " G P S " indicator on the map
screen w i l l be green. See the Global Positioning
System detailed explanation in the " S y s t e m

locate each satellite on the circular GPS diagram (see
prior screen).
