The entry
identifies the LIC containing the port (
I/O
0–3), and
will be one of these:
Link State
– The link was shut down by an on-line command, is undergoing re-
Link_disable
IPL, or has not yet been established.
– Some or all modem controls are missing. (This state is passed through
Failed
while a port is becoming enabled.)
– The link was up, but has gone down.
Link_down
– Level 2 cannot be established.
Disconnect
– The level 2 link is up.
Linkup
– Some state other than those above has been entered.

To configure the port with the parameter values neccessary for your application, go to
the appropriate chapter:
Frame relay – Chapter 6
X.25 – Chapter 7
SNA – Chapter 8
Async – Chapter 10
BSC – Chapter 9
Configure the protocol that will run over the physical port.
If configuring a physical port that will contain logical ports, configure the physical
port as described in the appropriate chapter in the above list, then follow the procedure
under "Configuring a Logical Port" on page 6-21.
