As shown in Figure 1-3, one or two Line Interface Cards (LICs) mount to an RLP and
provide electrical interfaces to connectors on the RLP. Each LIC supports four I/O
ports, all of the same interface type. A cable carries each LIC's signals (plus signals
from the RLP) from a 60-pin connector on the RLP to the I/O box. The I/O box acts
as a "splitter" that separates the signals from the RLP cable and carries them to four
25-pin I/O connectors. The "final" physical interface depends on the combination of
the LIC and the I/O cable exiting the I/O box.
Although each RLP supports two attached LICs, the maximum number of
V.35 LICs in a node is twelve.
