CYLINDER/PISTON INSTALLATION

PISTON RING INSTALLATION

Apply oil to the ring grooves.

Carefully install the piston rings into the piston ring

Be careful not to

grooves with the marks (top and second) facing up.

• Do not confuse the top and second rings.

• To install the oil ring, install the spacer first, then

install the side rails.

Stagger the piston ring end gaps 120° apart from

After installation, the piston rings should rotate

freely in the piston ring grooves.

Place a clean shop towel over the crankcase to pre-

vent any gasket material and the piston pin clips

from falling into the crankcase.

Clean any gasket material from the cylinder mating

surfaces of the crankcase, oil and water passages.

Apply molybdenum oil solution to the piston pin

outer surface.

Install the piston to the connecting rod with the "IN"

mark facing the intake side.

Insert the piston pin through the piston and con-
