COOLING SYSTEM

THERMOSTAT

REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
Drain the coolant from the system (page 7-7).
Remove the luggage lower box (page 3-16).
Remove the bolt and water hose clamp.
Remove the bolts and thermostat cover.
Remove the thermostat.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
• Install the thermostat with the bleed hole facing
up.
• When installing the thermostat, align the tab of
the seal ring with the groove of the thermostat
cover.
Fill and bleed the cooling system (page 7-6).
Install the luggage lower box (page 3-16).
INSPECTION
Remove the thermostat (page 7-10).
Visually inspect the thermostat for damage.
Check for damage of the seal ring.
Replace the thermostat if the valve stays open at
room temperature.
Heat a container of water with an electric heating

THERMOSTAT BEGINS TO OPEN:
80.5 – 83.5°C (177 – 182°F)
VALVE LIFT:
4.5 mm (0.18 in) minimum at 95°C (203°F)
Replace the thermostat if the valve opens at a tem-
perature other than those specified.
Install the thermostat (page 7-10).
