SERVICE INFORMATION

GENERAL
• If any of the following services (the procedures which could alter the relative position of the movable drive face position
sensor and the movable drive pulley assembly) have been performed, Honda S Matic System initialization (page 24-61)
is required.
– Drive belt replacement (page 11-18)
– PCM replacement (page 6-99)
– Movable drive face position sensor removal/installation
– Movable drive face position sensor shaft removal/installation
– Reduction gear A, B removal/installation
– Movable drive pulley assembly removal/installation (page 11-18)
• Honda S Matic System is equipped with the Self-Diagnostic system. If it detects a problem in the system, "F" mark on
the gear position indicator on the meter blinks to indicate the problem code.
• PCM stores the problem symptom as a problem code. The stored problem code can be erased using the DLC.
• Before performing the Honda S Matic System diagnosis, perform the PGM-FI system diagnosis to make sure that
engine related components are normal.
• When checking the Honda S Matic System, always follow the Self-Diagnostic system (page 24-8).
• When any abnormality is detected by the self-diagnosis function, minimum running capability is assured making use of
the preset program or the alternative sensor (page 24-8).
• Before servicing the Honda S Matic System, make sure that there are no poorly connected or corroded connectors.
• The VS sensor sends digital pulse signal to the PCM for computation. For VS sensor inspection (page 22-18)
• When disassembling, note the location of the O-rings. Replace them with new ones upon reassembly.
• Use a digital tester for Honda S Matic System inspection.
