When performing capillary blood sample
measurements on fetal scalp blood, insert the
mixing wire into the capillary tube after the sample
has been collected.
• When performing measurements on fetal scalp
blood, introduce the capillary sample into the
analyzer from the cap end free from Vaseline
smear. In case both capillary ends are smeared, dry
one of the ends with a lint-free tissue before
measurement.
• Due to their inherent characteristics fetal scalp
blood samples are generally regarded as potentially
difficult to work with. An important prerequisite
for successfully analyzing fetal scalp blood samples
is the sample quality and that the preanalytical
precautions listed above are followed very closely.
