switchport auto-negotiate

To configure auto-negotiation on Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, use the switchport auto-negotiate
command in configuration mode. Use the no form of the command to delete the configured switch port
information.
Syntax Description
This command has no arguments or keywords.
Defaults Enabled.

Usage Guidelines
You can configure the auto-negotiate option for a specified Gigabit Ethernet interface. By default, the
port is configured to auto-negotiate. By configuring auto-negotiation, the port automatically detects the
speed or pause method, and duplex of incoming signals and synchronizes with them.

The following example configures auto-negotiation on a Gigabit Ethernet interface.
switch# config t
switch(config)# interface gigabitethernet 8/1
switch(config-if)# switchport auto-negotiate
The following example disable auto-negotiation on a Gigabit Ethernet interface.
switch(config-if)# no switchport auto-negotiate
