MOUNTING AND CONSTRUCTION
7.3.4
When connecting new electrical equipment in the vehicle, one of the terminals of
the device is connected to the battery with a normal insulated conductor wire, while
the other is connected to ground. In vehicles supplied by HMC, the chassis frame
represents the earth wire, and in it are also connected the negative poles of the bat-
teries. It works as return conductor wire between equipment connected to the ve-
hicle and the batteries. This achieves a great saving in the number of conductors
needed, and therefore in the cost of installation. This connection to the chassis
frame of the vehicle can only be carried out at points designated for this purpose
by HMC.
As poor connection to ground can completely ruin the vehicle's electrical system,
good planning is required to get the best installation possible.
HMC supplies vehicles that have several earth connections, either inside the cabin
or along the chassis frame.
For optimum installation, only earth connections enabled by HMC must be used.
The use of other points could cause failure of the security system, or errors in
the operation of the equipment installed in the vehicle.
