Brake system modifications

As a general rule, no modifications to the brake system of the vehicle are allowed.
If this is unavoidable, for example due to a change in the wheelbase, HMC or one of
its specialised workshops should always be contacted, to study the viability of the
work to be performed.
WARNING
The brake system is one of the most important elements of vehicle safety.
Improper handling of the brakes may cause them to malfunction, so that the
driver cannot stop the vehicle and might cause an accident.
WARNING
The cooling of the brake discs must not be impaired by installing equipment in the
vehicle that will clog the air intake to the brakes. This could lead to overheating of
the system, which could reduce the braking capacity of the vehicle. This would
result in an accident.
NOTICE
Any modification work on the brakes should be entrusted to a specialised centre
which has the necessary certification.
No manipulation of the components of the braking system, such as brake discs, cyl-
inders, valves, control systems etc. is allowed. Modifications can be only made in the
laying of the brake pipes, in strictly necessary cases, and in compliance with the
guidelines given in this manual.
The rules of each country should also be considered. Some countries require a ver-
ification test to be carried out on the brake system.
In vehicles that incorporate the VDC stability system and ABS braking system, the
sensors located at the wheels to control their speed should not be manipulated. It is
not possible to make any modification in the control unit of these systems or change
their position. After making changes to the braking system, it will be necessary to
perform a reconfiguration of the VDC stability system, adapted to the new situation
of the vehicle.
