INTRODUCTION
PRELIMINAR STUDIES AND CONSIDERATIONS
MOUNTING AND CONSTRUCTION
If the temperature of the oil in the gearbox of the vehicle exceeds 110 °C, and the
water temperature must not exceed 100 °C or if the PTO should operate without
interruption for more than 30 minutes, an oil cooler must be mounted.
Never mix different types of oil in the oil transmission circuit. It could result in
damage to the system and its malfunction.
Not all types of PTO which are available on the market are suitable for continuous
use. Therefore during the PTO performance, the guidelines of use for each spe-
cific PTO must be respected (working period, breaks, etc.). Otherwise, this could
lead to system failure or serious damage.
Propeller shaft driven by PTO
If a propeller shaft is used to transmit the motion of the PTO, it must meet several
requirements to ensure the proper functioning of the system.
The angles of the joint from propeller shafts between the PTO and the actuator
must be equal to each other and must not exceed the maximum values.
See Chapter 4.6 "Propeller shaft modifications".
If the propeller shafts are assembled at very high angles, this can lead to excessive
vibration. It is therefore recommended that measurements should be taken, to en-
sure the proper functioning of the system.
The propeller shafts must be balanced before assembly.
A check should be carried out to ensure that the dimensions of the propeller shaft
are sufficient to withstand the torque required, which the PTO provides to activate
the equipment installed in the body through the power delivered by the engine.
The propeller shafts and all their elements should be covered by adequate casings
to prevent possible accidents.
