7.1

Before proceeding with the installation of an electrical, electromechanical or elec-

tronic device in the vehicle, electromagnetic compatibility must be checked.

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of a system not to cause electro-

magnetic interference to other equipment. At the same time, it has to be insensitive

to the emissions caused other systems that might affect it.

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can be defined as the issue of energy that de-

grades or adversely affects the quality of a signal or the operation of a system.

HMC performs this check with the equipment installed as standard on all vehicles.

The original setting must not be changed, or incompatibilities could occur between

devices.

If the Body Builder wants to install other equipment in the vehicle afterwards, it

should carry out exactly the same check, certifying the correct operation of this

equipment by type certificates, which will recognise that products are in full com-

pliance with standards and regulations.

Electronic systems that are going to be installed in the vehicle must be approved ac-

cording to Directive 2004/108/EC, meet the requirements of the regulation ECE R10

and have the "e" marking.

The difference between the "e"-marking and the "CE" marking is based on the pro-

cedure for obtaining it.

The "CE" marking is based on the declaration of compliance of the staff responsible

for placing the product on the market (self-certification), while the "e" marking in-

volves a third party (certification). The test relating to obtaining the "e" marking is

performed by an authorised laboratory.
