To increase the durability and maintain the best possible condition of the chassis
and its appearance, it is necessary, when carrying out work on the basic vehicle, to
take measures against corrosion.
Corrosion is defined as the interaction of a metal with the surrounding medium,
thereby producing deterioration in their properties, both physical and chemical,
through an electrochemical process. A typical example of corrosion in metals is the
formation of rust or iron oxide.
It is important, from the time of planning, to select the most suitable materials and
methods to be employed, to prevent corrosion. Good design is also relevant, as this
will try to avoid corners or grooves that may cause the accumulation of dirt and
moisture.
On completion of the conversion work on the vehicle, the Body Builder will protect
all parts of the vehicle that have been added or modified against corrosion.
Protective materials that possess at least the same quality and properties as these
used in the original vehicle must be used.
The products and techniques used for corrosion protection should correspond to
those that have been approved by HMC.

Corrosion occurs due to the potential difference between two metals with different
properties which are in contact in the presence of an electrolyte. For this reason,
the use of insulating elements is recommended, to insulate two or more metal parts
with different properties which are in contact.
Special attention should also be paid to the holes or slots that are created in the
welding process, to avoid the accumulation of dirt or water in them.
