2.3.10 Turning diameter

The turning diameter is a measurement that describes the ability of a vehicle to ro-
tate. This is generally determined by the width of the vehicle, the wheelbase, the
maximum angle of rotation of the front wheels and the total longitude of the vehi-
cle.
To ensure the manoeuverability of the vehicle, it must be able to perform a 360
within certain limits, according to the route by which it is going to circulate. It should
therefore be ensured that the turning diameter is within the limits established by
standards:
-
DIRECTIVE 97/27/EC
certain categories of motor vehicles and their trailers and amending Directive
70/156/EEC.
-
DIRECTIVE 96/53/EC
culating within the Community the maximum authorised dimensions in national
and international traffic and the maximum authorised weights in international
traffic.
NOTICE
For the turning diameter of the original vehicles supplied by HMC, refer to the
technical documentation for each vehicle.
See General Book, chapter 2.4 "Contact possibilities".
CAUTION
Normally, the elongation of the chassis frame has a negative influence on the
characteristics of the turning diameter. Attention should be paid to ensuring that
the new turning diameter values are within the limits established by law.
