Welding work

One of the most important points in the transformation of the vehicle is the welding
work.
Generally, welds are not recommended on the chassis frame of the vehicle. This is
because the chassis of the vehicle is subject to continuous vibration during driving,
due to road imperfections. In this situation, the weld can fail due to fatigue stress.
For this reason, and whenever possible, the use of bolted joints is recommended in
construction work.
CAUTION
Perform welding work on the chassis frame in order to attach the body to it is
strictly forbidden.
This will hinder the movements of flexion and torsion while driving the vehicle,
which could cause damage to the chassis structure.
Welding work is recommended only in certain specific cases, and always using ma-
terials with at least the same quality and properties as the originals. Likewise, it will
be necessary to select a suitable welding procedure in accordance with specific
work and the material used.
NOTICE
Welding work must be performed by qualified personnel at all times, being careful
to get a satisfactory welded joint.
Once the work has been completed, the welding work performed should be
reviewed, to check that there are no pores or imperfections, and that a good final
work quality has been achieved.
WARNING
- To avoid health risks, certain precautions should be taken.
The recommendations given by HMC in this manual must be followed.
See General Book, chapter 4.2 "Welding work prevention".
- The accident prevention regulations and laws and regulations of each country
must also be respected.
- The legislation on explosives and flammable materials must be also considered.
Failure to follow these recommendations could cause serious injury to persons
performing the work and also to anyone in the vicinity.
