INTRODUCTION
PRELIMINAR STUDIES AND CONSIDERATIONS
MOUNTING AND CONSTRUCTION
WARNING
Do not modify or alter any control device or steering systems in the vehicle. This
can cause them to malfunction, which can lead to an accident, causing injury to
the occupants.
-
The passage of cables or pipes through the cab must be performed in
accordance with the standards and with the guidelines in this manual. Holes
made in the cab must be hermetically sealed. Rubber grommets or another sys-
tem should be used to prevent the ingress of dust, water or other particles.
-
The installation of elements that might wholly or partially block the door aper-
tures, even after an accident, should be avoided.
CAUTION
Do not stopper the air intake of the engine or the cooling system. If this recom-
mendation is not followed, the vehicle could break down, and the engine could
stop working.
-
The vehicle's soundproofing must be checked after the modification work has
been carried out.
See chapter 4.5.2 "Noise insulation".
-
A check should be carried out to ensure that, after the modifications, the max-
imum axle load and position of the centre of gravity are within permitted the
limits. Care must also be taken to ensure that that the maximum load permitted
on the roof is adhered to when installing air conditioning equipment, wind
deflector, etc.
See chapter 2.3.3 "Weight distribution".
See chapter 2.3.4 "Centre of Gravity (CoG)".
-
The main vehicle dimensions must be respected. Care should be taken when
installing side wind deflectors or any other equipment that might change the
dimensions of the cab.
See chapter 2.3.2 "Vehicle main dimensions".
-
If it is necessary to drill or cut the sheet metal or the bearing structure of the
cab, care must be taken to ensure that, once the work has been completed, the
structural rigidity and strength of the final structure are at least the same as in
the original structure.
For partially integrated bodies, such as is the case with camper vans, it is necessary
to cut the roof together with the cross beam that binds the B-pillars, and also the
rear wall of the cab. These modifications are considered to be of great importance,
since they affect the resistance and stiffness of the cab.
