Bodyshell modifications

4.3.1

General considerations

The body shell is a fairly complex assortment of large steel sections. These sections
have been stamped into specific shapes which make up the body of the vehicle.
These parts provide solid mounts for all other systems, and slice through the air with
minimal resistance.
No modifications carried on the bodyshell of the vehicle should affect the normal
operation of the systems or equipment installed in the vehicle as standard. Care
should also be taken to ensure that the new configuration of the vehicle complies
with the European standards as well as with the respective rules of the country
where the vehicle is delivered.
When making modifications, a certain number of restrictions must be respected:
-
If any of the elements of the bodyshell have been modified, the BB must ensure
that the new structure has at least the same load capacity as the structure of
the original vehicle.
-
The original structure should be strengthened in areas where the changes per-
formed make this necessary.
-
As a general rule, making cuts in the structural arches of the bodyshell is not
allowed. HMC must be contacted if necessary.
See General Book, chapter 2.4 "Contact possibilities".
-
-After modification work, the different groups, devices and equipment installed
in the vehicle must be accessible for proper maintenance, repair or substitution.
See chapter 2.3.11 "Body and chassis clearances".
-
When planning conversion work, the minimum free space requirements for
some original elements of the vehicle, such as brake cables, fuel pipes, etc.
should be taken into account.
-
The modifications carried out should not prevent the safe operation of vehicle
control devices, such as switches, electronic systems, security systems, cooling
systems, etc.
