MOUNTING AND CONSTRUCTION
4.3.3

Roof

Sometimes the roof of the vehicle needs to be modified. This is a difficult and ex-
pensive operation. It must be performed by qualified personnel, in order to produce
satisfactory work. Authorisation from HMC is needed before performing the work.
NOTICE
To obtain more detailed information about authorisations and certificates of con-
formity.
See General Book, chapter 2.6 "Verification and certification of superstruc-
tures".
General considerations
A number of general recommendations must be followed when performing modifi-
cation work on the vehicle roof:
-
Sometimes the roof panel or a structural element on the roof must be cut or
disassembled. In these situations the original structure that has been removed
should be replaced by a new structure, such as a perimeter frame. This should
ensure strength and rigidity equal to that of the original roof.
-
The performance of the safety belts should not be affected due to excessive
deformation of the structure.
WARNING
No security system of the vehicle must be affected by modifications carried out in
the roof of the vehicle. If any system fails to work properly, an accident involving
the vehicle could cause very serious health consequences for the occupants. It is
the responsibility of the Body Builder to ensure that safety systems are working
properly prior to delivery of the vehicle.
-
Manipulation of the detection sensors for rain and light must be avoided.
-
The vehicle's soundproofing must be checked after the modification work has
been carried out.
See chapter 4.5.2 "Noise insulation".
