14. EXAMINE PARTICLES IN PAN
Remove the magnets and use it to collect any steel chips.
Look carefully at the chips and particles in the pan and on
the magnets to anticipate what type of wear you will find
in the transmission:
Steel (magnetic)
=
bearing, gear and clutch plate
wear.
Brass (nonmagnetic) = bushing wear.
15. TURN TRANSMISSION OVER AND REMOVE TUBES
Pry up both tube ends with a large screwdriver and remove
the tubes.
16. REMOVE STRAINER AND GASKET
17. REMOVE VALVE BODY
(a) Remove the seventeen bolts.
(b) Disconnect the throttle cable from the cam and
remove the valve body.
18. REMOVE THROTTLE CABLE AND RETAINER
Using a 10-mm socket, push the plastic throttle cable
retainer out of the transmission case.
