multaneously if BAS Plus requests a partic-
ularly high braking pressure.
Keep the brake pedal depressed until
the emergency situation is over.
ABS prevents the wheels from locking.
The brakes function again as normal when:
you release the brake pedal
there are no obstacles detected in the
path of your vehicle
there is no longer a risk of collision
BAS Plus is then deactivated.
BAS Plus also reacts to stationary obsta-
cles at speeds of up to approximately
70 km/h, e.g. stopped or parked vehicles.
For BAS Plus to assist you when driving,
the radar sensor system must be switched
on and operational. You can check this by
switching on Distronic Plus or via the "Ra-
dar sensor" menu on the on-board compu-
ter.

Information about switching on the radar
sensor system can be found on ( page 287).
G
Risk of accident
BAS Plus only considers clearly detected
objects when providing braking assistance.
Detection can be impaired in particular if:
the sensors are dirty or covered
it is snowing or raining heavily
there is interference from another radar
source
there is strong radar reflection, e.g. in
multi-storey vehicle parks
BAS Plus does not react to:
people or animals
oncoming vehicles and cross traffic
BAS Plus may not detect narrow vehicles,
e.g. motorcycles and vehicles travelling on
a parallel but offset course.
Following a severe impact or in the event
of damage to the front of the vehicle as a
result of an accident, have the setting and
function of the radar sensors checked at a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
If BAS Plus is not available due to a mal-
function in the radar sensor system, the
braking system remains available with full
brake boosting effect and BAS.
Adaptive brake lamps
i
The adaptive brake lamps are only available
in certain countries.
The brake lamps flash in quick succession
if the vehicle is braked suddenly from a
speed of more than 50 km/h or if BAS or
BAS Plus* intervenes during braking. This
warns passing vehicles.
The hazard warning lamps switch on auto-
matically and the brake lights come on per-
manently when they are applied again if
the vehicle is braked to halt from a speed
of more than 70 km/h in this way.
The hazard warning lamps switch off again
automatically when you exceed a speed of
10 km/h.
