Safety
Occupant safety
Move the front-passenger seat as far
back as possible, especially if children
are sitting or secured in a restraint sys-
tem on it.
Rearward-facing child restraint systems
must not be fitted to the front-passen-
ger seat if the front airbag on the front-
passenger has not been deactivated.
The front passenger's front airbag is au-
tomatically deactivated in
Mercedes-Benz vehicles if a child re-
straint system with automatic child seat
recognition is fitted to the front-passen-
ger seat of a vehicle equipped with auto-
matic child seat recognition and the
9 indicator lamp is on.
If a forward-facing child restraint system
is fitted to the front-passenger seat, the
front-passenger seat must be moved as
far back as possible. Even with the seat
in this position, the belt must be routed
forwards in the direction of travel and
pulled tight.
Do not lean forwards, e.g. over the pad-
ded boss of the steering wheel, particu-
larly when the vehicle is in motion.
Do not put your feet on the dashboard.
32
Only hold the steering wheel by the rim.
This allows the airbag to deploy fully.
You could be injured if the airbag is de-
ployed and you are holding the inside of
the steering wheel.
Do not lean on the doors from inside the
vehicle.
Do not place any objects on the airbags
or between the airbags and the vehicle's
occupants.
Do not place any objects between the
seat backrests and the doors.
Do not hang any hard objects, e.g. coat
hangers, on the grab handles or coat
hooks.
It is not possible to rule out the risk of inju-
ries caused by an airbag due to the high
speed with which the airbag is required to
deploy.
Your vehicle is equipped with the following
airbags:
Driver's front airbag, located in the
steering wheel
Front-passenger front airbag above the
glove compartment
Sidebags on the outer side of the front
seats
Sidebags to the outside, next to the
seats in the rear compartment
Windowbags in the edge of the roof
frame
Airbag deployment
The airbags inflate within milliseconds. The
= warning lamp comes on.
i
If the airbags are deployed, you will hear a
bang and a small amount of powder may also be
released. The bang is not harmful to your hearing
and the powder is not hazardous to your health.
Airbag deployment slows down and re-
stricts the movement of the vehicle occu-
pant.
When the vehicle occupant makes contact
with the front and side airbags, hot gas
flows out of the airbags. This reduces the
force acting on the occupant's head and
chest. The airbags are thus deflated after
the accident.
