you shift the selector lever out of posi-
tion P when the driver's door is closed
Activating HOLD
Make sure that the general activation
conditions are fulfilled.
Depress the brake pedal.
Depress the brakes again quickly until
the "HOLD" message appears in the
multi-function display.
HOLD is activated. You can release the
brake pedal.

You cannot activate HOLD when Distronic
Plus* is active.

The brake pedal does not return completely
to its rest position while HOLD is activated.

If you are unable to activate HOLD when you
first depress the brake pedal, wait a short time,
then try again.

Risk of accident
If HOLD is activated, the vehicle is braked.
For this reason, deactivate HOLD if the vehi-
cle is to be set in motion by other means
(e.g. in a car wash or by towing).
Deactivating HOLD
HOLD is deactivated automatically if you:
depress the accelerator when the
transmission is in position D or R
shift the automatic transmission to po-
sition P
release the brake pedal completely and
depress it again with a certain pressure
until the "HOLD" message goes out in
the multi-function display
secure the vehicle with the electric
parking brake
activate Distronic Plus*

Your vehicle will be secured with the electric
parking brake after a short time to relieve the
load on the service brake.
If HOLD is activated and a malfunction oc-
curs in the system, the "Brake immediate-
ly" message appears in the multi-function
display. Depress the brake pedal immedi-
ately so that the vehicle does not roll away.
HOLD will be deactivated and the warning
in the multi-function display will go out.

Risk of accident
Never get out of the vehicle when HOLD is
activated.
HOLD must never be operated or deactivat-
ed by a passenger or from outside the vehi-
cle.
HOLD does not replace the electric parking
brake and must not be used for parking.
The HOLD braking effect is cancelled and
the vehicle could roll away if:
HOLD is deactivated by an occupant in
the vehicle depressing the accelerator
pedal or the brake pedal
there is a malfunction in the system or
an interruption in the power supply, e.g.
battery failure
the electrical system in the engine com-
partment or the fuses have been tam-
pered with
the battery is disconnected
