Push the cruise control lever in the di-
rection of arrow 5.
The LIM indicator lamp goes out.
Cruise control or Distronic* is select-
ed.
Variable Speedtronic is deactivated auto-
matically if you depress the accelerator
pedal beyond the pressure point (kick-
down) and your current driven speed dif-
fers from the stored speed by less than
20 km/h.

The last speed saved is deleted when you
switch off the engine.

Permanent Speedtronic
You can use the on-board computer to per-
manently limit the speed to a value of
160 km/h or more, e.g. for driving on win-
ter tyres.
Permanent Speedtronic remains active,
even if variable Speedtronic is deactivated.
You cannot even exceed the set limit
speed by depressing the accelerator pedal
beyond the pressure point (kickdown).

Make sure the key is in position 2 in the
ignition lock.
Press ( or & to select the
"Settings" menu ( page 286).
Press % or $ to select
"SPEEDTRONIC".
Press #.

Press # again.
Press % or $ to adjust perma-
nent Speedtronic in increments of
10 km/h (240 km/h to 160 km/h).
Permanent Speedtronic is deactivated
with the "Off" setting.
Press # again.
Driving systems
HOLD
HOLD relieves the strain on the driver:
when pulling away, especially on steep
slopes
when manoeuvring on steep slopes
when waiting in traffic
The vehicle is kept stationary without the
driver having to depress the brake pedal.
The braking effect is cancelled and HOLD
deactivated when you depress the acceler-
ator pedal to pull away.
General activation conditions
You can activate HOLD when:
the vehicle is stationary
the engine is running
the electric parking brake is released
the automatic transmission is in posi-
tion R, N or D. The boot lid must be
closed if the automatic transmission
is in position R.
the bonnet is closed
your seat belt is fastened or, if you are
driving faster than 3 km/h, the driver's
door is no longer open
