Tyres and wheels

Points to remember
!
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you only use tyres which have been
approved by Mercedes-Benz specifically for your
vehicle. These tyres are specially adapted to
suit driving characteristics, comfort, wear and
for use with the control systems, such as ABS or
®
ESP
. If you use other tyres, Mercedes-Benz
cannot accept any responsibility for damage
which may occur. Information about tyres can be
obtained from any Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
If you use tyres other than those which have
been tested and recommended for
Mercedes-Benz, characteristics such as han-
dling, noise emissions, fuel consumption and
wear could be adversely affected. In addition,
when driving with a load, dimensional variations
and different tyre deformation characteristics
could cause the tyres to make contact with
the bodywork and axle components. This could
cause damage to the tyres or the vehicle.
!
Retreaded tyres are neither tested nor rec-
ommended for Mercedes-Benz, since previous
damage cannot always be detected on retreaded
tyres. As a result, Mercedes-Benz cannot guar-
antee vehicle safety if retreaded tyres are fitted.
G
Risk of accident
Only use wheels of the dimensions stated in
the vehicle registration documents. There is
a risk of damage to the wheel brakes or sus-
pension components if you have other tyres
fitted and the clearance of the wheels is no
longer guaranteed.
Modification work on the brake system
and wheels is not permitted, nor is the use
of spacer plates or brake dust shields. Any
such modifications will invalidate the vehi-
cle's general operating permit.
Further notes:
Only fit tyres and wheels of the same
type and make.
Only fit tyres that are designed for the
wheels to which they are fitted.
At least every 14 days, you should
check:
the tyres and wheels for damage
Damaged wheels can cause pres-
sure loss in the tyres and lead to
further damage.
Operation
Tyres and wheels
the tread depth on all tyres
Note that if the tread depth is less
than 3 mm, grip on wet roads will be
seriously impaired and a tyre may
wear unevenly. Turn the front
wheels to full lock if necessary to
enable you to check the inner edge
of the front tyres more easily. You
must also always check the inside
of the tyre tread on the rear wheels.
Run in new tyres at moderate speeds
for the first 100 km.
Check the tyre pressure regularly and
adjust it as necessary.
Fit new tyres on the front wheels first if
tyres of the same size are required on
the front and rear wheels.
Replace the tyres after six years at the
latest, regardless of wear. This also ap-
plies to the spare wheel*.
Adjust the tyre pressure when the vehi-
cle is laden – see the tyre pressure ta-
ble in the fuel filler flap.
