Possible cause/consequence
When you apply or release the electric
parking brake, the red indicator lamp
for the electric parking brake flashes
for approximately 10 seconds. It then
goes out or remains lit. The yellow
warning lamp for the electric parking
brake is lit.
The electric parking brake has malfunc-
tioned due to an overvoltage or under-
voltage or has overheated, for example.
Possible solution
Pull away carefully ( page 258).
Visit a qualified specialist workshop.
In the event of overvoltage or undervoltage:
Rectify the cause of the overvoltage or
undervoltage, e.g. charge the battery or
restart the engine.
Switch the ignition off and on again and ap-
ply or release the electric parking brake.
If you cannot release the electric parking
brake by following the above instructions:
Release the electric parking brake manual-
ly ( page 472).
Visit a qualified specialist workshop.
In the event of overheating:
Allow the vehicle to cool down but do not
apply the electric parking brake during this
time.
or
Switch the ignition off and on again and
then apply or release the electric parking
brake.
