Child restraint systems
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you only
use the child restraint systems listed on
( page 41).
G
Risk of injury
To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury to
a child in the event of an accident, braking
or sudden change in direction:
always secure children less than 1.50 m
tall or under 12 years of age in special
child restraint systems on a suitable
seat in the vehicle because the seat
belts are not designed for persons of
this size
do not allow children under 12 years of
age to sit on the front-passenger seat
unless they are secured in a child re-
straint system with automatic child seat
recognition in a vehicle equipped with
automatic child seat recognition in the
front-passenger seat (indicated by the
9 warning lamp on the dash-
board).
38
never allow children to travel in the vehi-
cle while sitting on the lap of another
occupant. It would not be possible to re-
strain the child due to the forces occur-
ring in the event of an accident, heavy
braking or sudden change in direction.
They may be thrown against parts of the
vehicle interior and be seriously or fatal-
ly injured
all vehicle occupants must always have
their seat belts fastened correctly
If a child restraint system is fitted to the
front-passenger seat, make sure the
front-passenger seat is moved as far
back as possible
G
Risk of injury
If the child restraint system is not fitted cor-
rectly to a suitable seat, the child may not be
secured in the event of an accident or sud-
den braking and may be seriously or fatally
injured. Therefore, when fitting a child re-
straint system, you must observe the manu-
facturer's installation instructions for the
child restraint system.
Child restraint systems should preferably be
fitted to the rear seats. The child is generally
better protected there.
Never place objects, e.g. cushions, under
the child restraint system. The entire base of
the child restraint system must always be
resting on the seat cushion.
A child restraint system must not be used
without the genuine cover designed for it.
Only replace damaged covers with genuine
covers.
On the rear seats, only use child restraint
systems that have been recommended for
use in Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
"Universal" category child restraint sys-
tems are recognisable by an orange ap-
proval label on the restraint system itself.
