Coolant

Risk of injury
The cooling system is pressurised. There-
fore, only unscrew the cap once the engine
has cooled down. You could otherwise be
scalded by hot coolant.
Coolant consists of water and antifreeze or
corrosion inhibitor. Only check the coolant
level when the vehicle is on a level surface
and the engine has cooled down.
Checking the coolant level
The expansion tank is located in the engine
compartment on the right-hand side when
viewed in the direction of travel.

2 Expansion tank
Slowly turn cap 1 through half a turn
anti-clockwise to allow excess pres-
sure to escape.
There is sufficient coolant in expansion
tank 2 if the coolant reaches the
marker bar in the filler neck when cold
or is approximately 1.5 cm higher when
warm.
Top up the coolant if necessary.
Engine compartment
Replace cap 1 and tighten it until it
engages.

( page 523).
Windscreen washer system and
headlamp cleaning system
The washer fluid reservoir is located in
the engine compartment on the left-hand
side when viewed in the direction of travel.
It supplies the windscreen washer system
and the headlamp cleaning system.

Add washer fluid concentrate to the
washer fluid all year round.
