1 Windowbag
Windowbags 1 are deployed:
at the start of an accident with high ve-
hicle acceleration or deceleration in a
lateral direction
on the side on which an impact occurs
independently of the front airbags
regardless of whether the front-
passenger seat is occupied or not
if the vehicle overturns on both sides
and the system determines that win-
dowbag deployment can offer addition-
al protection to that provided by the
seat belt

PRE-SAFE ® (preventive occupant
safety)
Preventive occupant safety (PRE-SAFE
initiates preventive measures in certain
hazardous situations for your safety. PRE-
SAFE ® intervenes in:
emergency braking situations, e.g. if
Brake Assist BAS ( page 47) is acti-
vated or Brake Assist BAS Plus*
( page 47) intervenes powerfully
critical driving situations, e.g. where
the vehicle understeers or oversteers
because it has exceeded physical limits
In these cases, PRE-SAFE ® initiates the fol-
lowing measures if you are driving faster
than 30 km/h:
it moves the front-passenger seat to an
optimum position ( page 231) if it is
in an unfavourable position
it increases the air pressure in the air
chambers (side bolsters of the seat
cushion and backrest) of the multi-con-
tour* ( page 216) or dynamic driving
seats* ( page 218)
if the vehicle understeers or overs-
teers, the sliding/tilting sunroof
)

automatically to leave a residual gap
If the hazardous situation passes without
resulting in an accident, PRE-SAFE
