Possible cause/consequence
The brake system is very hot due to ex-
treme loads.
The brake system sensor technology is
malfunctioning. The braking system re-
mains available with full brake boosting
effect.
The brake pads/linings have reached
their wear limit.
The red indicator lamp for the electric
parking brake flashes and you also hear
a warning tone.
You are driving with the electric parking
brake applied or you are using the elec-
tric parking brake for emergency brak-
ing support while the vehicle is in
motion ( page 259).
Possible solution
Reduce the load on the brake system.
Adopt an even more anticipatory driving
style.
Make use of the engine brake on downhill
gradients. Select a lower gear for this pur-
pose.
Drive on carefully to allow the airflow to
cool the brakes.
Drive on carefully.
Visit a qualified specialist workshop imme-
diately.
Have the brake pads/linings replaced at a
qualified specialist workshop.
Release the electric parking brake.

Pull away carefully ( page 258).
In the event of emergency braking:
Release the electric parking brake handle.
