Operation
Engine compartment
If the engine is running, the following mes-
sage will appear:
"Engine oil level Not with engine running"
Switch off the engine and wait for ap-
proximately five minutes before meas-
uring when the engine is at normal
operating temperature.

Press the L button on the multi-function
steering wheel if you wish to cancel the oil level
measurement.
Topping up the engine oil

Risk of injury
Engine oil and some engine components can
become very hot. To avoid the risk of burns,
only touch those components described in
the Owner's Manual and observe the rele-
vant safety notes.

Example (CL 500)
1 Filler neck cap
Unscrew cap 1 on the filler neck anti-
clockwise and remove.
Top up with the amount of engine oil re-
quired.

Have excess oil siphoned off. There is a risk
of damage to the engine or the catalytic convert-
er if there is excess oil in the engine.
Screw cap 1 on the filler neck and
tighten clockwise.

Environmental note
When topping up the oil, take care not to
spill any. Oil must not be allowed to escape
into the soil or waterways. You would other-
wise be damaging the environment.
Oil level in the automatic
transmission
There is no need for you to check the oil
level in the automatic transmission. In
the event of oil loss or problems with gear
shifts, have the automatic transmission
checked at a qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. at a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Oil level in the ABC system
There is no need for you to check the oil
level in the ABC system. In the event of
visible oil loss or malfunction messages in
the display, have the ABC system checked
at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. at a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
