Snow chains
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you only use snow chains
which have been specially approved for
Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
If you are intending to fit snow chains,
please bear the following points in mind:
Snow chains cannot be fitted on all
wheel/tyre combinations.
Snow chains must not be fitted to
emergency spare wheels, e.g.
"Minispare".
Snow chains must only be fitted to both
rear wheels. Comply with the manufac-
turer's installation instructions.
!
If snow chains are fitted to the front wheels,
there is a risk of the chains coming into contact
with the bodywork and axle components when
the vehicle is in motion. This may damage the
tyre or the vehicle.
The vehicle may only be driven at raised ve-
hicle ride height if snow chains are fitted
( page 313).
You should not exceed the maximum per-
missible speed of 50 km/h. As soon as
you are back on snow-free roads, remove
the snow chains as soon as possible.
i
You may wish to deactivate ESP
ing away with snow chains fitted ( page 49).
The wheels are then able to spin under control
and generate an increased propulsive force
(cutting effect).

G
Risk of accident
Do not change down for additional engine
braking on a slippery road surface. The drive
wheels could lose their grip.
Drive particularly carefully on slippery
roads in winter. Avoid sudden accelera-
tion, steering manoeuvres and braking.
If the vehicle threatens to skid or cannot
be stopped when moving at a low speed:
Move the transmission to position N.
Try to bring the vehicle under control
using corrective steering.
