Recalculate Critical Load
Determines whether the critical load needs to be recalculated based on
changes in the critical load calculation coefficient.
Critical Load Calculation Coefficient
The criteria for determining whether fracture has occurred. If the
roughness of the sample measured during the scratch is this coefficient
times the roughness measured during the initial profile of the sample,
then fracture has occurred.
For example, if the roughness measured during the profile was 10 nm
and the coefficient is set at 50, then the method determines that fracture
has occurred when the roughness exceeds 400 nm.
Roughness Coefficient
A scaling factor applied to the initial profile data for the purposes of
plotting, so that you can see an amplified roughness before the scratch.
There are six results that are unique to scratch testing:
Critical Load
Penetration Depth At Critical Load
Scratch Width
Total Height Of the Groove
Residual Scratch Depth
Pile Up Height
Many of these are described by markers outlined in
on page E-8.
