LAN Emulation
Redundancy
This section describes the concepts and planning of redundant LAN
Emulation services and is relevant to networks that have more than one
CoreBuilder 9000 ATM Enterprise Switch installed.
The following topics are included:
LANE Services in the CoreBuilder 9000 ATM Switch Fabric Module
Redundant LANE Services
LECS Redundancy Facility — Configuring the LECS-Order Database
LES Redundancy Facility — Configuring the ELAN Topology Database
Selecting LAN Emulation Redundancy Mode
LANE Redundancy Start-up Delay
LANE Redundancy Limitations
LANE Redundancy Planning
The LANE redundancy management system of version 2.0 described in
this section is intended to supersede the LANE redundancy system of
previous versions, which was based on the external Transcend Enterprise
Manager application.
See the CoreBuilder 9000 ATM Switch Fabric Module Getting Started
Guide for a description of how to install switch fabric modules with LANE
redundancy.
The LANE redundancy facility of the CoreBuilder 9000 ATM Enterprise
Switch has the following advantages:
It is handled internally by the LECS and does not depend on an
external management tool such as the Transcend Enterprise Manager.
No change in the functionality of the LAN Emulation Clients is
required — works with any standard LEC of any vendor.
Handles recovery from ELAN splitting.
The version 4.0 mechanism can be disabled to revert to the previous
method of managing LAN redundancy by the Transcend Enterprise
Manager.
