LE_ARP Response Policy
The LE_ARP response policy determines whether or not the LES searches
for the LAN destination in the LE_ARP request in its own database. There
are two policies as shown in Table 55.
.
Table 55 LE_ARP Response Policies
Policy
Description
Respond
Checks the address table of the LES in the CoreBuilder
ATM Enterprise Switch. If the LAN destination is not found, it
sends the LE_ARP request to all LECs in the ELAN. If the LAN
destination is found, it sends the LE_ARP response to recipients
selected according to the ELAN response policy.
Forward Request Does not check the address table of the LES in the
CoreBuilder
immediately sends the LE_ARP request to all LECs in the ELAN.
ELAN Response Policy
The ELAN response policy pertains to the possible recipients of a response
of a LES to an LE_ARP request by a LEC. Two policies are possible as
shown in Table 56.
.
Table 56 ELAN Response Policies
Policy
Description
DIRECT VCC
The LES sends the response to the requesting LEC only.
DISTRIB ALL
The LES sends the response to all LECs in the ELAN.
LE_ARP Response Policy for Route Descriptors
This is an additional policy for responding to LE_ARP requests when the
specified ELAN is a Token Ring ELAN and when the LAN destination is a
route descriptor. This policy is used in conjunction with the LE_ARP
response policy and is applicable only when the "Respond" option is
selected in that policy.
When the "Respond" policy is selected, the address table of the LES in
the CoreBuilder 9000 ATM Enterprise Switch is searched for the LAN
destination. If the LAN destination is not found, then this additional policy
gives the operator the option to reject the LE_ARP request.
