MUX VLAN
A MUX VLAN is used to isolate Layer 2 traffic between the interfaces of a VLAN. For example,
on an intranet, a user interface can communicate with a server interface, but the user interfaces
cannot communicate with each other.
In MUX VLAN implementation, VLANs are classified in to MUX VLANs and subordinate
VLANs. Subordinate VLANs are classified into subordinate group VLANs and subordinate
separate VLANs.
The MUX VLAN can communicate with the subordinate VLANs, but the subordinate VLANs
cannot communicate with each. Interfaces in a subordinate group VLAN can communicate with
each other, but interfaces in a subordinate separate VLAN cannot communicate with each other.
VLAN Damping
By using the VLAN damping function, the S9300 waits for a certain period before reporting the
Down state of the VLANIF interface, thus eliminating unnecessary route flapping.
The status of the VLANIF interface becomes Down only after all the interfaces in the VLAN
become Down. The change of the status of the VLANIF interface will result in route convergence
on the entire network. The VLAN damping function can restrict the route flapping caused by
the change of the VLANIF interface.
With the VLAN damping function, if the last interface in the VLAN becomes Down, the
VLANIF interface is informed of the status change after a delay. If an interface in the VLAN
becomes Up within the delay, the VLANIF interface is still Up.

3.3 Creating VLANs

This section describes how to create one or multiple VLANs.

3.3.1 Establishing the Configuration Task

3.3.2 Creating a VLAN
3.3.3 (Optional) Creating VLANs in a Batch
3.3.4 (Optional) Enabling Traffic Statistic in a VLAN
3.3.5 (Optional) Disabling MAC Address Learning on a VLAN
3.3.6 Checking the Configuration
3.3.1 Establishing the Configuration Task
Applicable Environment
Through a VLAN, hosts that do not need to communicate with each other are isolated. The
VLAN improves the security of the network, reduces broadcast traffic, and suppresses broadcast
storms.
