EXHAUST PIPE ISOLATOR INTERMEDIATE
PIPE
SUPPORT
INSTALLATION
(1) I n s t a l l side sill resonator/intermediate pipe to
catalytic converter pipe. Do n o t t i g h t e n band clamps
at this time.
(2) I n s t a l l muffler. Do n o t t i g h t e n band clamps at
this time.
(3) I n s t a l l resonator/intermediate pipe a n d muffler
isolators. Tighten bolts to 28 N - m (250 i n . lbs.),
(4) Tighten band clamps to 70 N - m (55 ft. lbs.).
(5) I n s t a l l downstream oxygen sensor and tighten
to 27 N - m (240 i n . lbs.). Connect w i r i n g to oxygen
sensor.
(6) I n s t a l l side sill panel (rocker panel cover).

INSTALLATION
(1) Install muffler to intermediate pipe. Do not
tighten band clamps at this time.
(2) Install muffler isolators and tighten bolts to 28
N - m (250 i n . lbs.).
(3) Tighten muffler band clamps to 70 N - m (55 ft.
lbs.).
RESONATOR/INTERMEDIATE PIPE
REMOVAL
(1) Raise vehicle on hoist and remove side sill
panel (rocker panel cover). Refer to Group 2 3 , Body
for procedure.
(2) Apply penetrating oil to band clamps of compo-
nent being removed (Fig. 5).
(3) Remove muffler. Refer to procedure outlined i n
this section.
(4) Disconnect and remove downstream oxygen
sensor.
(5) Remove resonator/intermediate pipe isolator
(Fig.
6 ) .
(6) Remove resonator/intermediate pipe.
REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect negative battery cable.
(2) Perform fuel system pressure release and fuel
r a i l purge
procedure, before attempting any
repairs.
Refer to Fuel Delivery System i n Group 14, Fuel Sys-
tem for procedure.
(3) Disconnect intake air temperature sensor elec-
t r i c a l connector from a i r cleaner. Remove throttle
body hoses and a i r cleaner assembly (Fig. 7) or (Fig.
8).
