Plastigage
(5) Carefully remove the bearing cap and measure
the w i d t h of the plastigage at the widest part using
the scale on the plastigage package (Fig. 13). Refer to
Crankshaft Specification Chart for proper clearances.
I f the clearance exceeds the specified l i m i t s . Replace
the m a i n bearing(s) and i f necessary have the crank-
shaft machined to next undersize. Also see Measur-
i n g M a i n and Connecting Rod Bearing Clearance i n

cap and a crankshaft cheek using care not to damage
any bearing surface. D o n o t loosen m a i n bearing
cap.
(2) Use a feeler gauge between number 3 t h r u s t
bearing and machined crankshaft surface to deter-
mine end play. Refer to Crankshaft End-Play Table
for specification.

REFACING VALVES AND VALVE SEATS
The intake and exhaust valves have a 44 1/2 - 45
degree face angle. The valve seats have a 45 1/2 - 46
degree face angle. The valve face and valve seat
angles are shown i n (Fig. 15).
Inspect the remaining margin after the valves are
refaced. Refer to Valve Dimension Chart for specifi-
cations.

i n g stones. A true and complete surface must be
obtained.
(2) Measure the concentricity of valve seat using a
dial indicator. Total r u n o u t should not exceed 0.051
m m (0.002 in.) t o t a l indicator reading.
