SENDING UNIT TEST
(1) Sending units and w i r i n g can be checked b y
grounding the connector leads, at the sending u n i t ,
i n the vehicle.
(2) W i t h
the ignition
i n the O N position,
a
grounded i n p u t w i l l cause the fuel or temperature
gauge to read at or above m a x i m u m .
SPEEDOMETER/TACHOMETER TEST
Test
for battery
voltage:
(1) Remove meter and t u r n ignition switch O N .
Refer to Meter Removal a n d Installation.
(2) Using voltage meter, test voltage between P i n 3
and P i n 4 (Fig. 12) and (Fig. 13).
(3) I f battery voltage is OK, replace meter. I f not
OK, check ignition w i r i n g .

TEMPERATURE WARNING LAMP TEST
To test the temperature w a r n i n g lamp, t u r n the
ignition switch to the O N position. Disconnect the
wire from the temperature switch on the engine and
momentarily touch the wire to ground. When the
w i r e is grounded the bulb of the indicator should i l l u -
minate. I f the bulb fails to illuminate, indications are
of a faulty circuit i n the system, or possibly the indi-
cator bulb is faulty. Repair or replace as necessary.
R E M O V A L A N D I N S T A L L A T I O N
ASH RECEIVER ASSEMBLY
Remove t h e ash receiver assembly by p u l l i n g
upward.
CIGAR LIGHTER
R E M O V A L
(1) Remove instrument panel center bezel (Fig.
14).
Disconnect the cigar lighter, power window
switch and rear window defogger switch (if equipped)
wire connectors.
(2) Remove cigar lighter element.
(3) Hold outer clamp, while t u r n i n g shell. Do not
lose cigar lighter shield.
