(7) Back off the compressor tension on the coil
spring u n t i l the top coil of the spring is about to con-
tact the upper seat for the coil spring. A t this point,
reverify t h a t the end of the last coil is not positioned
i n the cut-out notch of the spring shim or the coil
spring upper seat (Fig. 13).
(8) F u l l y release compressor tension on the coil
spring and remove the spring compressor from the
coil spring.
(9) Remove the shock absorber from the vise.
(10)
After servicing shock absorber assemblies,
install both front or rear shock absorber/coil spring
assemblies back on vehicle. W h e n i n s t a l l i n g s h o c k
absorber assemblies, v e h i c l e m u s t be at design
height before t i g h t e n i n g
a n d t o r q u i n g
s h o c k
absorber assembly m o u n t i n g bolts. See
Shock
Absorber Removal and Installation w i t h i n this group
of the service manual for correct shock absorber
installation procedure.
DESIGN HEIGHT SETTING
(1)
Place the vehicle on a level, flat surface, such
as an alignment rack, t h a t w i l l allow access to the
underside of the vehicle.
(2)
Check t h a t a l l tires are at the preferred infla-
tion pressure and adjust as necessary i f they are not.

(3) Loosen the mounting bolts for the following
suspension components. The m o u n t i n g bolts must be
loosened enough to allow the suspension of the vehi-
cle to move w i t h o u t loading (twisting) the rubber
insert of the isolator bushings.
• Front and rear lower control a r m to
frame
bracket mounting bolts.
• F r o n t and rear upper control a r m to
frame
bracket mounting bolts.
• Front upper control a r m to pivot bar m o u n t i n g
bolts.
• Front and rear shock absorber to frame bracket
mounting bolts.
• Front and rear shock absorber to lower control
a r m m o u n t i n g bolts.

Position the Front Height Checking Fixture,
Special Tool 6914, on the inner r i m flanges of the
front wheels (Fig. 14).

(5) Position the Rear Height Checking Fixture,
Special Tool 6914, on the inner r i m flanges of the
rear wheels (Fig. 15).
(6) Ensure t h a t the Vehicle Height Checking Fix-
tures, Special Tool 6914, are correctly attached to the
